CAptain’s Mate Insight session – Book Yours Now

Following the successful launch of our upgraded CAptain’s Mate app on 1 December 2021, the Cruising Association is offering CAptain’s Mate Insight sessions to the cruising community.

Open to members and non-members, the CAptain’s Mate Insight session will give you the opportunity for a one-to-one online tour of the app’s functionality and ask any questions.

CA update on UK Government VAT rules for UK boat owners

Following a meeting with HM Treasury (HMT) and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the Cruising Association (CA) is pleased to confirm that the UK Government will make a positive change to the application of Returned Goods Relief (RGR) for recreational craft. As a result, many boat owners will no longer have to pay VAT on the return of their boats to the UK.

Cruising Association elects Derek Lumb as new President

Derek Lumb was elected as President of the Cruising Association at its Annual General Meeting at CA House, London on Wednesday 10 November 2021.

Derek Lumb becomes the thirty-third President of the Cruising Association, a role which was first formalised in 1920. A CA member since 2008 and an active volunteer, Derek steps up from his role as Council member and Vice-President to take over the Presidency.

 

The Cruising Association provides Guidance on new Ofcom VHF Radio Licence Compliance

Boat owners in the United Kingdom holding a VHF radio licence must ensure compliance with the new licence conditions introduced by Ofcom.

The new licence conditions have been introduced by Ofcom due to concerns about the risk of exposure to electromagnetic field (EMF) emissions which are transmitted by all radio equipment. This change in licence conditions affects boat owners using radio, radar and other emergency alerting equipment on UK vessels.

CA Celebratory Lunch

Held at CA House on Saturday 23 October, the CA Celebratory Lunch was an occasion for members to meet up and celebrate the recipients of the 2020 CA Challenge Awards and winners of the 2020 Log Competitions.

Hosted by CA President Julian Dussek, the lunch welcomed around 50 CA members and staff, alongside special guest Mike Golding who presented the trophies and awards.

CA Guidance on changes to use of Marine Diesel in Northern Ireland

With effect from 1 October 2021, the UK Government has confirmed it will become illegal in Northern Ireland to refuel private pleasure craft with red (marine) diesel in any tank used for engine propulsion.

The Cruising Association, through our Regulations and Technical Services group (RATS), has been keeping abreast of the situation in order to advise yacht and motor cruisers on the new protocols and steps to take to ensure compliance.
