We have again a diverse programme both for new members and for members with experience in cruising on inland waterways. We’ll start with an introduction into cruising on the Inland Waters, new regulations, and available sources of information for cruise planning. We’ll discuss the current and upcoming immigration rules that may affect cruising in Europe both on the continent and for visitors to the UK. We’ll hear about the experience of cruising in Germany from a couple of members. And we do an in-depth review of the inland cruising opportunities in 2025 on French inland waterways.

The Netherlands Standing Mast Routes are a popular passage for sailing and motor yachts, serving as a gateway to destinations like the Kiel Canal and the Baltic, or simply offering a new cruising experience.

EIWS Spring Zoom

During this EIWS Zoom session, Tim Ball will give a short talk about taking a Catalina 36 and its 50ft mast to the Mediterranean and Julian Dussek, the Section Secretary, will briefly play with a boat in the bath.

Afterwards members can tell us about their plans for this year. The session is timed for 90 minutes so there will be plenty of time for discussion and questions and of course participants can drop out at any time without offence.

Every year, a considerable number of sail and motor cruisers take their boats into the European Inland Waterways. However, finding accurate and up-to-date information about what is involved is not always easy.

France says ‘no’ to long stays without a visa for UK subjects

France has firmly rejected the proposed amendment to the French Immigration and Integration Bill, which sought to grant an automatic visa/visa waiver for 6 months to UK subjects who own 'secondary residences' in France. The decision by the French Constitutional Court on Thursday, January 24, 2024, is considered final, with no avenue for appeal.
