The CA welcomes Malcolm Davidson to lead the Crewing Service

A warm welcome to CA member Malcolm Davidson who has taken over chairing the CA Crewing Service from long-term chair Caroline Milmo.

The CA extends a huge thank you to Caroline for the past seven years leading the Crewing Service, as she switches her time to take on the lead of the Honorary Local Representatives (HLRs) group.

 

CAptain’s Mate of the Month – Tayvallich, Scotland

For November’s CAptain’s Mate of the Month, we head to Scotland with CA member Alan Kohler, who has cruised extensively around the Scottish coastline, including a stopover in the popular spot of Tayvallich this summer.

Tayvallich is a small village in the Knapdale area of Argyll and Bute, with the well sheltered bay at the head of Loch Sween offering pontoon, mooring buoy and anchorage options.

Cruising Association launches new Polaris Award

Sharing cruising expertise is at the heart of the Cruising Association and to recognise members’ contributions to location information the Polaris Award has been launched.

The all-new Polaris Award will be presented to members who make an exceptional contribution to location information for the Cruising Association’s renowned Cruising Almanac, CAptain’s Mate and range of Cruising Guides.

As we announced on 23 September 2022, the Cruising Association is very proud that CAptain’s Mate has been nominated for the ‘Equipment Innovation of the Year’ category at the annual British Yachting Awards.

The Cruising Association hosted a webinar for members and non-members on Monday 17 October on ‘Channel Crossing Paperwork Procedures’, which has also been published for public viewing.

Imray prize for September ‘Refer a friend’ winner

Throughout the spring/summer sailing season, any CA member who referred a friend to join the Cruising Association has been entered into a monthly prize draw.

The prize for September was a £150 voucher to spend on charts and books from marine publishers Imray and the delighted winner is Jamie Brind.

CAptain’s Mate of the Month - Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands

CA member Nick Nottingham shares his report on visiting the stunning Turks and Caicos Islands, an archipelago of over forty low-lying coral islands southeast of the Bahamas in the Atlantic.

2022 Log Competition is open

The CA’s annual Log Competition is one of the oldest traditions and most notable events in the association’s calendar, dating back to 1910 when The Love Cup was first awarded.

The Log Competition awards members with prestigious trophies across various categories for the best log of a cruise carried out in the most recent season

Enter the 2022 CA Photo Competition

The annual CA Photo Competition is a wonderful platform to showcase experiences of sail and motor cruising.

Entries should be beautifully composed, high-quality photographs of anything relating to cruising or the CA. Whether you cruise local waters or further afield, all entries are welcome and members can submit multiple images. The competition opened on 1 October 2022 and runs until 31 December 2022.
