The 2020 CA Photo Competition for CA members – winner & runners-up announced

We're constantly amazed by the quality of images as well as the variety of subjects and locations submitted each year by CA members for our annual photo competition. Red diesel and the validity of the Istanbul Convention of 1990

Marine red diesel is still on sale to leisure vessels in the UK, despite the Government’s plans to phase it out following a judgment from the European Court of Justice. Now that Britain has left the EU, red diesel will continue to be legal for the propulsion of vessels in the UK until April 2022. However, red diesel in crafts’ engine tanks is not permitted in the EU27 and other countries.

The Cruising Association announces online Spring Promo Week

With the challenges of COVID-19 still likely to curtail face-to-face events being staged in the first few months of 2021, the Cruising Association (CA) is putting in place plans to stage an online Spring Promotions Week to coincide with the fitting out season, from 22-26 March.

The key Brexit issues affecting the sailing community have been addressed in a recently held Brexit Special Webinar entitled "Brexit Issues for Cruisers", the contents of which was researched and presented by members of the Cruising Association (CA) Regulations and Technical Services group (RATS).

HMRC has caused controversy amongst the many thousands of British yacht and motorboat owners that keep their boats in EU countries by introducing a penal interpretation into UK tax law requiring them to pay VAT a second time on the value of their boats when they bring them into UK waters.

The CA understands that HMRC may be considering changing the interpretation of VAT rules so that, after the Brexit transition period, all boat owners established in the UK whose boats have been in the EU for the last three years or longer will pay VAT for a second time if they want to bring their boats back to the UK.
