The CA is delighted to announce that Nick Nottingham has won the Cruising Almanac photo competition with his stunning photo of Tinker’s Hole on the island of Mull. Nick’s photo will take pride of place on the front cover of the 2023 CA Cruising Almanac, which will be available to purchase from September 2022.
The winning photo was unanimously decided by the three judges, Judith Grimwade – Chair of the Almanac Group, John Calver - Honorary Editor of the Almanac, and a representative of Imray, Laurie, Norie & Wilson Ltd, who publish the Almanac.
The competition was open from 2 October 2021-31 December 2021, with a brief for a photo taken within the geographic area covered by the Cruising Almanac, which portrayed the lifestyle of cruising and encouraged others to discover and be motivated to go cruising.
As well as Nick’s photo featuring on the front cover of the Almanac, he wins a year's subscription to Explore with Imray, a digital library of pilot books.
Nick took the winning photo on his iPhone, commenting, "The views down on the anchorage from the east side are spectacular - as you can see from the picture. I was so lucky to be there on a perfect day in July, and I’m delighted that my photo will grace the cover of the 2023 Almanac."
On CAptain’s Mate app, Nick describes mooring at Tinker’s Hole, saying, "Rightly known as one of the most stunning little anchorages in these parts. In settled weather, there is room for five yachts in the main anchorage and two to three further up. "
Hilary Henery won the CA’s annual photo competition with her stunning photo of a puffin with a beak full of sand eels.
