Dramatic changes in the fortunes of ports from Yarmouth to Colchester occurred in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries as their communities faced repeated outbreaks of the Black Death, global climate change and a severe and prolonged economic depression. The result was a permanent shift in their importance and standing.

Professor Bailey is the president of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History. He is an historian and he played rugby for England in the 1980s.

When we sail along we often wonder how the coast and rivers looked in the past.

Sailors have always sought shelter at times, and Goseford in the Deben was one of many which have disappeared.

Over several centuries a surprising diversity of goods were traded between East Anglia, northern France and the Low Countries and this two way trade helped the local economies. Andy used the lock-down to prepare this presentation on what he discovered during his researches.

"We completed a 17 year circumnavigation in 2013 in our Bowman 48. The longest passage was from Galapagos to Hawaii, 4,800 miles; it took 36 days. We were enjoying the passage so much we didn't want it to end. I hope to share the excitement of Ocean sailing with you."
