Tune in to the CA’s series of free Motorboat Talks

The CA is pleased to present a special series of five free expert-led talks, hosted by our newly launched Motorboat Section.

Running from December 2024 to April 2025, these talks are free for everyone on Zoom. While CA talks normally require a fee for non-members, we are opening our virtual doors to support the wider cruising community, providing an opportunity to learn, connect and be inspired.

From Sailing to Motorboat: Adventures to the Med via the Donau/Danube and Black Sea

Date:
Thu, 13/03/2025 - 19:00

René Kock and Antoinette van Lier have sailed from the Netherlands with their motor yacht Pastel (a 60-ft. Dutch steel motor yacht, a Vincere 186) over the Donau/Danube on their way to the Med via the Black Sea. The couple previously sailed on a Grand Soleil 50 from Europe to Brazil and then onwards to the Caribbean. They wanted to continue their mobile life discovering the beauty of the world, but felt a strong wish to be closer to their family in the Netherlands.

30 Years of the National Coastwatch Institution

Date:
Thu, 13/02/2025 - 19:00

Since its establishment in 1994, the NCI has relied on charitable support to maintain a visual and radio watch along the UK coastline. In this talk, Tom Scrimgeour, Head of Logistics and National PRO, will share insights into the essential role of the NCI in maritime search and rescue efforts.

This event is open to all CA members as well as non-members.

Motorcruising the Dutch Frisian Islands, Machiel Lambooij and Remko Sinck

Date:
Wed, 09/04/2025 - 19:00

Visitors from abroad to the Netherlands often seem to miss the Dutch Frisian Islands (Waddeneilanden) on their travels through the country. For motorboaters, it really is a destination worth the trip. The island atmosphere, the wide mudflats at low tide (an UNESCO World Heritage Site), bird species, seals and the walking/biking trails make this is a special destination. Motorboaters can visit three of the islands at any tide, two require tidal planning.

The Yacht Broker: How it Works, Hugh Rayner

Date:
Thu, 05/12/2024 - 19:00

If you have a boat, then the likelihood is that you bought it, and you may even have used a Broker... But what does a Broker actually do, (and should you use one for buying and selling a boat), and are they really all Ken Masters soundalikes? (a brief Howard's Way reference for those of a certain age...) We will run through the process, the pitfalls, the good (and the bad) and definitely the ugly.
