Members will recall that following the Cruising Association’s successful petition, video, and campaign, a multiagency committee has been convened under the auspices of the UK Safety of Navigation Committee chaired by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Autumn reflections on the 2019 cruising season: new awards launched

In celebration of all things cruising and to mark the start of Autumn, October is the ideal month for cruising sailors to think about compiling their cruising log from the past season's adventures. Of particular interest to Cruising Association members, October is also the birthday month of a famous and intrepid seafarer and meticulous log-keeper, Captain James Cook, the sale of whose handwritten logs enabled the CA to build its HQ in Limehouse Basin, London.

Southampton Boat Show success

The Southampton International Boat Show, powered by Borrow a Boat, was a success for the CA, both in terms of adding extra value for our existing members visiting the show and for attracting new members to join the CA community over the course of the ten-day show.

Withdrawal of Admiralty Small Craft Folios

Do you use Admiralty Small Craft Folio charts? UKHO has just announced that it is planning to withdraw them. RATS is urging members who use and value these charts to let UKHO know of their views, but hurry: the deadline for comments is October 11 now extended to 31 October! .

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has made the following announcement:

New features enhance CAptain's Mate app

Our exclusive mobile membership app, CAptain's Mate, has recently been further enhanced to provide our 6,300-strong global membership with fingertip access to details of the hundreds of discounts available to them through a network of worldwide suppliers. The user menu also includes a function allowing members to identify country-specific discounts nearest to them using maps.

Ocean Safety prize draw winner

We were delighted that the Managing Director of Ocean Safety, Alistair Hackett, drew the winning ticket in our BIG prize draw on Wednesday morning on the Ocean Safety stand at the Southampton Boat Show. Our GM Lucy Gray announced that the CA has received a record 835 entries over the last six months and how grateful the CA is to Ocean Safety for providing such a generous and practical prize to our members.

Fairview Sailing charter: new prize draw for members

Fairview Sailing is delighted to be partnering with the Cruising Association to bring their members the chance to enter a draw for a fantastic 7-day bareboat charter worth around £2,500 out of Port Hamble on the Solent.

Interview with Dave Selby

Our autumn Roadshows guest speaker, Dave Selby, visited the CA stand on the opening day of the Southampton International Boat Show and recorded an interview with our PR Manager, Peta Stuart-Hunt.

As a prelude to his presentations in October and November, amongst other things, he describes how he got into boating through the CA's Crewing Service.

Jeanne Socrates sails into the record books again

CA member Jeanne Socrates has sailed into the record books again by becoming the oldest person, aged 77, to sail non-stop single-handed around the world.
