The osCA: New CA Log Competition category

Last month we announced the launch of a new video log (vlog) category in the annual Log competition for CA members and the we're delighted to unveil the accompanying Trophy - The osCA, sponsored by MS Amlin Boat Insurance, previously known as Haven Knox-Johnston.

We can also confirm that Mark Jardine, Managing Editor of YachtsandYachting.com and Sail-World.com and Vice-Chairman of the Yachting Journalists' Association (YJA), will be judging the 2019 entries.

CA Open Weekend

We'll be hosting an Open Weekend at our London headquarters at CA House, Limehouse Basin on Saturday February 29 and Sunday March 1.

A number of high-profile marine brands have already signed up to exhibit during the two-day event and the author, journalist and broadcaster Tom Cunliffe is confirmed as guest speaker for the Saturday evening.

Getting out on the water to go sailing gives many people around the world great pleasure and the chance to relax and escape the stresses of everyday life. In this Episode Dee Caffari talks to Sir Robin again, this time about his views of the unjustified perception that sailing is an inaccessible and expensive sport to enjoy.

The duo encourage more people who have not been out on the water boating for fun, to give it a go to dispel the myth that boating is only for the elite few and not for the many.

What is in store for the world of sailing? What is Sir Robin’s dream to get more people involved in the sport we all enjoy so much?

In episode 7 of 80 Seconds with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Dee asks about his vision of things to come into the future. Looking at both changes to the types of sailing participated in and the technical details of the boats we will be sailing on, Sir Robin draws on his experience to predict the future.

 

Preparations for Brexit in Brittany

CA Stage at Scotland's Boat Show

A packed line-up of presentations including cruising the from the Clyde to Scoresby Sund, the Biscay Coast of France, the Baltic, The Scillies and Southern Ireland, the French Inland Waterways and sailing around the UK plus talks from other Show exhibitors providing specialist advice on a variety of subjects will be on offer on the 'CA Stage' at this year's Scotland's Boat Show, taking place from October 11-13.

Members will recall that following the Cruising Association’s successful petition, video, and campaign, a multiagency committee has been convened under the auspices of the UK Safety of Navigation Committee chaired by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Autumn reflections on the 2019 cruising season: new awards launched

In celebration of all things cruising and to mark the start of Autumn, October is the ideal month for cruising sailors to think about compiling their cruising log from the past season's adventures. Of particular interest to Cruising Association members, October is also the birthday month of a famous and intrepid seafarer and meticulous log-keeper, Captain James Cook, the sale of whose handwritten logs enabled the CA to build its HQ in Limehouse Basin, London.

Southampton Boat Show success

The Southampton International Boat Show, powered by Borrow a Boat, was a success for the CA, both in terms of adding extra value for our existing members visiting the show and for attracting new members to join the CA community over the course of the ten-day show.
