Evening visit to an Observatory with the local (to Woolverstone) Astronomical Society

Date: 8th and 15th March 2018

Join us for one of these visits to the Observatory at Orwell Park, previously the home of Col. Tomline, a past commodore of RHYC.

Starting at 2000 at a cost of £5 per person, visitors will be sent joining instructions upon booking and will need to use their own transport.

Some high & low lights of 50,000 miles circumnavigating the Globe over 7 years. Boat preparation, provisioning, maintenance in exotic places, navigation, long passages.

Supper £14. Price includes attendance at the talk. There is a charge of £5 per head for members attending for talks only.

A chance for prospective Skippers and Crew to meet face to face, get crew for their voyages or a berth for local or long-distance sailing. A valuable opportunity to take the measure of each other & arrange mutually convenient dates for sailing.

Lunch will be available following the meeting.

This evening is now a Tradition. It includes talks by Members of their exploits in waters nearby and far away and also the Annual Photo Competition.

Always a varied and convivial evening, talks on Dinghy sailing, sailing with a disabled partner, 2 weeks with a following wind and how poetry can enliven even the briefest trip.

Well known for his pilot book, the focus of Roger’s writing is on the best routes & tides for Crossing the Thames Estuary. However, knowing that our members do not spend all the time heading South, he will also include local destinations.
