80 seconds with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston - All Episodes

In celebration of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's 80th birthday, a series of videos entitled "80 Seconds with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston” have been created. They are presented by another legendary round the world sailor, Dee Caffari, and shared courtesy of the MS Amlin Yacht YouTube channel.

In celebration of his 80th birthday, Episode One of the "80 Seconds with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston” video series entitled “The Lure of the Sea” is shared courtesy of the MS Amlin Yacht YouTube channel.

In this first episode you can look forward to finding out what it is that keeps Sir Robin throwing off the mooring lines again and again, alongside Dee Caffari digging to find out what his future plans are…. will he be heading back out to regain his record as the oldest person to single handedly navigate the globe non-stop?

Greek Cruising Tax implemented

The Cruising Association (CA) has been informed that the Greek Cruising Tax known as TEPAI or TEPAH, will be implemented on April 2nd 2019. At present there is no on-line registration system so if you are cruising to or already based in Greece you will need to go to the Port Police by the 2nd of April to fill in all the forms. You have the choice to put your yacht “Out of Use”, or pay the tax.

Birthday Breakfast with Sir Robin!

CA President Julian Dussek was recently invited to join our Patron - and MS Amlin Yacht’s Brand Ambassador - Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, at a special 80th birthday breakfast event held in London during which MS Amlin also detailed their new sponsorship of the 2019 Yachting Journalist Awards. In celebration of Sir Robin’s 80th birthday, MS Amlin Yacht has created a series of twelve videos titled "80 Seconds with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston", presented by another legendary round the world sailor, Dee Caffari.

 

New CA Guide to The Netherlands Standing Mast Routes

A new Guide to the Dutch standing mast routes has been produced by the European Inland Waterways Section of the Cruising Association (CA).

Several hundred sailing and motor yachts travel through the standing mast routes each year, many of them en route to the Kiel Canal and the Baltic. However, obtaining accurate, up-to-date advice in English on the routes has always been a challenge.

The Cruising Association welcomes The Princess Royal

In his capacity as Patron of The Cruising Association (CA), Sir Robin Knox-Johnston CBE RD and bar, today hosted a private visit from The Princess Royal to the CA's headquarters in Limehouse Basin, London.

Sir Robin, accompanied by the CA President Mr Julian Dussek and immediate past-President Mrs Judith Grimwade, was delighted to welcome The Princess Royal to CA House as part of the Association's 110th anniversary celebrations.

 

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston 50th Anniversary of Winning the First Golden Globe

On Easter Monday, April 22, it will be the 50th anniversary of the moment when Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Patron of the CA, crossed the line as winner and sole finisher in the original Golden Globe race. To commemorate the end of his first solo circumnavigation, Sir Robin will be sailing Suhaili from Gosport to Falmouth and is aiming to cross the original finishing line at 3.25pm, exactly as he did in 1969.

To celebrate this, there will be three events throughout the day.

CA House closed for private event

ALL of CA House will be closed until 1700 on 13 February 2019 for a private event. Access to all areas, including the library, offices, bar and restaurant, will be restricted to those attending the event.

 

Ocean Safety Day in London

We are delighted to confirm that our partner Ocean Safety, the marine safety experts, are putting on an Ocean Safety Day at CA House on April 6th. An additional Safety Day is also being planned at Ocean Safety’s Glasgow facility in the Autumn for which we will have more details soon.

Meanwhile, attendees at April’s Safety Day, starting at 1030am and finishing at 4pm, will enjoy a schedule of presentations and practical demonstrations that always proves very popular with CA members and their guests.
