Whoops! Enjoy some nautical clangers. by Graham Anthony
Tragedies at sea are no laughing matter; they are usually the result of man's obstinacy and perversity. We look at how these factors led to several spectacular sinkings, and the political ramifications that followed. Graham Anthony balances these serious issues with some amusing interludes. This talk is informative, challenging and entertaining. It is suitable both for sailors and anyone interested in the less well known issues of safety at sea.
For those who either sail or plan to sail the Mediterranean, on November 13 we have a great opportunity to meet Rod and Lu Heikell
Since first setting out for the Med in 1976, Rod has published many pilot books and guides, over 19 according to CA library's last count, and most sailors in the Med will have a Heikell guide at their side.
Talk by Janet and Horst Safarovic. Janet is our popular HLR for the Kiel area who, with husband Horst, spends every moment possible sailing in the Baltic. They are coming to London to tell us more about cruising this popular coast. As Janet and Horst organised the location and events for this year's Baltic Rally, we are making this evening a reunion for Travemünde 2012 (and of course for all other Baltic Rallies). Come along to learn more about cruising Baltic Germany and to meet up with the "rallygoers".
This talk will present Charlotte's experiences of sailing the west coast of Norway to Lofoten, (bizarrely on her way to the Caribbean..... now no bad jokes about female navigation skills).
Other seasons included voyaging to St Petersburg in 2010, and then to Jan Mayen and Iceland in 2011. This talk is about 'giving it a go', lessons learnt and about really having fun and enjoying being afloat on pocket cruisers. Her sailing base is in Greenwich, London.
