Launch of Jimmy Cornell’s 'World Voyage Planner'

Jimmy Cornell and Adlard Coles Nautical invite you to celebrate the launch of his new book, a definitive guide to help sailors plan a voyage from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world, with suggestions of alternative routes, recommended times and favourable seasons, tropical storm areas and critical months, suggested detours to attractive places, and strategically located ports of call to be used in an emergency.

Jimmy will introduce with a talk on Voyage Planning in the Age of Electronic Charts.

Entry is free.

Members willing to share their cruising 'highs' and 'lows' on January 22nd are asked to contact David Hailes, (01202 m706280) to let him know the title and duration of their talk/presenatation so that a balanced programme can be assembled. 

It does not need to be an all singing and dancing PowerPoint presentation, members are interested in where you sailed and what advice you would give. Someone else may be thinking of following in your wake.

The How and Why of Tides by John Barry

The tides have a major effect on our time on the water – and have a seemingly infinite variability around the world.  From Ungava Bay to Lowestoft, from Venice to Port Circumcision, from Galileo to Dr. Doodson, here is a description of the basic theory of how and why tides happen, how predictions are generated, and some of the other effects that we need to look out for.
