Jim Lawrence will give a PowerPoint presentation on his “early days of barging” a worthwhile nostalgic trip to the good old days tinged with humour.  Jim is a well know speaker in the CA and great reports have been made of his talks so this is something to which we enthusiastically look forward.

After dinner at 6:45pm join the Essex CA Shanty Singers for Shanty Singing and the notorious version of Secret Santa - ‘The Yankee Grab ! ’ 

We hope to see lots of old and new friends from the CA Essex Section, BSC and guests at this alternative to our usual monthly talk and dinner.

Exploring Zeeland, June 26th – July 3rd 2014, Essex Section Rally and Cruise in Company

The objective is to explore (in convivial company) a part of the Southern Delta region of the Netherlands within Zeeland province.

The rally has been timed to avoid any of the school holidays (which are staggered by province in Holland), end of June is best. Harbours and the Veerse Meer can get worryingly crowded in the holiday periods.

Tested by the Committee and highly recommended. Do come along and enjoy excellent company and good food at the recently re-furbished 'William B' in the old Saxon village of Hatfield Peverel. Small car park on the N side & a larger one on the S side.

Generally large portions but you can choose something light. It's very central to Essex and just off the A12 so easy to find unless, of course, you get lost. If coming from the north, it's almost the last building on the left just as you think you're leaving the village.

Dinner at 6.45pm. Talks begin at 8pm.

Unfortunately, after some time at the previous cost, our Chef, Brigit, feels, not unexpectedly, she needs to increase the costs of the meals by £1.50 and this will be passed on to the diners.

Just turn up and pay on the day. No bookings, no formality, just a sociable gathering of Cruising Association friends (guests are also very welcome). If you do let us know you are coming, we could give the landlord some idea of numbers, but just turn up anyway, as complete informality is the whole point.

For many of us the start of the new sailing season is marked by the East Coast Spring Rally held over the Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 3 May to Monday 5 May 2014 at the RHYC on the River Orwell.
