The Galley Christmas closure

The Galley, the CA's bar and restaurant, will be closed for the Christmas/New Year break from Saturday 19 December 2020, re-opening on the evening of Monday 4 January 2021

CA House will be closed for the Christmas/New Year break from midday on Tuesday 22 December 2020, re-opening on Monday 4 January 2021.

The last night for cabin bookings will be Saturday 19 December 2020.

 

Brexit: VAT on boats outside the UK – Urgent Update

Boats in EU may have to pay UK VAT on return

The CA understands that HMRC may be considering changing the interpretation of VAT rules so that, after the Brexit transition period, all boat owners established in the UK whose boats have been in the EU for the last three years or longer will pay VAT for a second time if they want to bring their boats back to the UK.

Cruising Association Promo Week Scores a Hit!

The Cruising Association's online Promo Week (September 11-20) was held as an alternative to exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show and it's been hailed an all-round success, with 36 new members signing up plus a record 240 sales of our Almanac!

Nick Mines’ talk covers his single-handed (punctuated) non-stop 1100 mile passage from Nice to Venice last summer. The highs and lows and the telling effects of undertaking such a voyage alone.

He then covers the continuation with various crew through Croatia, Italy, Corfu, the Ionian, Sicily, Malta, Tunisia, Sardinia, Corsica and finally back to Nice. He reflects on the 3000 mile, 3 month adventure with candid admissions and telling observations.
