After weeks of frustration, including suffering from the 'silly season' here in South Africa (as they term the Christmas/New Year holiday period from the point of view of getting work done!), I finally had the good news I'd been waiting for - my engine repairs could go ahead, along with completing other repairs I'm getting done while in Cape Town - an excellent place for that. I'm hoping to get all the work completed within the next 2-3 weeks.

Like most cruising yachtsmen, I am inevitably involved in "Marine DIY" projects.
Just wondered if there was room somewhere in MyCA for a section on "Handy Tips".
Here's an example:
Having completed an epoxying job, there is always some mixed resin left over.
Put this in a sealed container and put it in the freezer. I have found that you can use this a month or more later! The same goes for brushes, rollers & paintpads used when epoxying or oil-based painting . .no need to wash them out - just freeze them but:
Incidentally, do not take all canal depths even on the latest Dutch charts as being fact. Our depth is 1.6m and we have done some interesting ploughing on the mast up route.
We letf the boat at Hasslo boatyard over the winter and she was in beautiful condition when we returned to her in the middle of May.
We motored back to Karlskrona and got her ready, then it was back to Hasslo for the new Radar dome to be fitted before going north to Kristianopel, a beautiful - if extremely quiet harbour.
On up to Kalmar, busy but lovely people, then across to Borgholm on the beautiful holiday island of Oland. Summer joined us there!
Back to the mainland and Oskarshamn, sadly suffering badly from the recession - but then arn't we all.
