The unspoiled Rias in the Galicia region of north-west, Spain are a popular cruising destination, offering numerous inlets and picturesque harbours. Muxia Marina, located on the southern part of the Ria de Camarinas, was a standout stop for CA member Paul Fitzsimmons.
CAptain’s Mate reports that the marina is located to port upon entry, with the commercial port to starboard. It provides excellent shelter and offers berthing for 220 boats, ranging from 6 to 45 metres, on sturdy pontoons.
Paul Fitzsimmons visited in 2024 after a gale force downwind run from A Coruña. Despite strong NE winds, he found the marina remarkably sheltered from the swell.
Paul shared his experience on CAptain’s Mate, saying, "The marina staff were very helpful and provided an adapter for the shore power which required a larger than normal plug for a EUR25 deposit. As it was early season it was only EUR18.50 euros per night for a two-night stay for a 12m yacht.
"Great restaurants on the front overlooking the marina and an excellent English-speaking chandlery on the street behind the sea front at the western end of town.
"The marina office doubles as a Shell petrol station and has a hire car available at EUR35 per day, which we used to take crew to Santiago airport, an hour away. Easiest hire process I have ever done!
"Highly recommend this port and would have loved to stay a few more days to explore the wider bay but had to move on to Vigo."
