Biscay Day, Sunday January 18th

Some members have expressed the wish to attend both the North France and Channel Islands day on 17th, and Biscay Day on the 18th. In order to make this more affordable for those wishing to attend both, we've decided to set the price at £50 for members, and £75 for non- members if attending both days. Please let your Section Secretary know if you want to change your booking - or when making a new booking.

Our 2015 Biscay Day Programme offers a range of presentations about cruising in Section Waters. The rivers Douro extends far into Portugal. Beryl Chalmers spent a week on a motor-boat exploring upstream of one of Portugal’s most important rivers and sampling her best known export. The Rias and Galicia are renowned cruising grounds, ahead of the publication of the new edition of the RCCPF’s pilot to Atlantic Spain and Portugal, we are pleased to welcome Henry Buchanan one of its editors. Alec and Cate Macpherson, spent 10 seasons exploring the canals of Brittany, venturing to places forbidden to boats with masts and deeper keels. What are the challenges and advantages of cruising these inland waterways?

Sometimes the only way to discover what is possible is to go ahead and do a practical experiment. Hence after years of dreaming of a life of extended cruising when Trevor and Maggie Page eventually retired, they decided to take a 10 week sabbatical to find out if their dreams were realistic.  Some of their questions were;  was their existing boat suitable and comfortable,  what would it cost and how would they get on as a couple spending so much time together and would they enjoy it? Where did they go, what did they discover, what gear worked well and what will they change? Was it fun and how did they manage to get ashore without using the dinghy?

Is it practical to follow the French coastline to Spain? Judith Grimwade the CA Cruising Almanac editor for Western France and her husband cruised from La Rochelle to Bilbao and back, what were the challenges?

Cost to include teas, coffees and a two course hot buffet lunch  CA members £27.50   Non-members £45     Non-members joining on the day with at direct debit will have the difference in attendance costs refunded. Contact .
