North France and Channel Islands Seminar

The North France and Channel Islands Seminar, 17th of January

Some members have expressed the wish to attend both the North France and Channel Islands day on 17th, and Biscay Day on the 18th. In order to make this more affordable for those wishing to attend both, we've decided to set the price at £50 for members, and £75 for non- members if attending both days. Please let your Section Secretary know if you want to change your booking - or when making a new booking.

The North France and Channel Islands Section are delighted that Peter Carnegie will be joining us, just prior to the launch of his new and updated edition of the excellent Imray pilot of The Channel Islands, Cherbourg Peninsula and adjacent North French coast. He will be sharing his extensive knowledge of this sailing area, with plenty of advice and opportunity to answer member's questions.

We also have Graham Stansbury, a sailing instructor from First Class Sailing, going through the options and scenarios for crossing The Channel. This will be invaluable for Skippers and Crew who are anticipating their first crossing, and a good review for more experienced sailors.

Mike Dixon, CA member and a former Yachtmaster Examiner, will talk to us about when he found himself caught out crossing the Channel in bad weather. He shares his experience of being hours at sea and rescued by the RLNI. Most importantly he will cover techniques that saved him and his yacht, and go through kit that worked and what didn't. He will also touch on the subject of salvage.

On a lighter note, we encourage contributions from members - Cruising logs and stories and there are spaces left in the programme for this. The last presentation will be short contributions from members to describe 'what they would never go to sea without' Please do not be shy; if you have a story we want to hear from you when you book.

Programme for the day and a booking form are below.
