Tune in to the CA’s series of free Motorboat Talks

The CA is pleased to present a special series of five free expert-led talks, hosted by our newly launched Motorboat Section.

Running from December 2024 to April 2025, these talks are free for everyone on Zoom. While CA talks normally require a fee for non-members, we are opening our virtual doors to support the wider cruising community, providing an opportunity to learn, connect and be inspired.

We kickstarted the series with a talk on 5 December by Hugh Rayner, Motor Yacht Broker at Berthon International, who demystified the world of yacht brokering. CA members can view a recording of this talk on the members' CA video page.

Coming Up

Whether you are an experienced motorboater or just starting out, each Zoom talk will be packed with practical tips, valuable insights and the latest knowledge. For more information and to register for the upcoming talks, click on each talk or visit the CA calendar.

16 January 2025 - Trim and Stabilisation systems
Imagine a day on the water without the constant roll, pitch, or struggle to stay steady in unpredictable seas. Lennart Dobele of Humphree will explain how stabilization systems can transform your boating experience with just the push of a button, avoiding seasickness and unstable rides, and providing a new level of comfort, control, and freedom on the water.

13 February 2025 - 30 Years of the National Coastwatch Institution
Discover the vital role of the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) in safeguarding lives at sea. Since its establishment in 1994, the NCI has relied on charitable support to maintain a visual and radio watch along the UK coastline. In this talk, Tom Scrimgeour, Head of Logistics and National PRO, will share insights into the essential role of the NCI in maritime search and rescue efforts.

13 March 2025 - Adventures to the Med via the Donau/Danube and Black Sea
Join René Kock and Antoinette van Lier as they recount their voyage from the Netherlands along the Donau/Danube to the Black Sea and onward to the Mediterranean, aboard Pastel, their 60-ft Dutch steel motor yacht (a Vincere 186). They previously sailed on a Grand Soleil 50 from Europe to Brazil and onto the Caribbean.

9 April 2025 - Motorcruising the Dutch Frisian Islands
Dutch CA members Machiel Lambooij and Remko Sinck will take you on a virtual tour of the stunning Dutch Frisian Islands (Waddeneilanden). Often missed by travellers, these islands feature UNESCO World Heritage mudflats, diverse wildlife and beautiful trails. Learn about tidal planning, recommended routes, and insider tips from Machiel and Remko's extensive experience cruising the North Sea, Channel, Baltic, and inland waterways.

CA Motorboat Section

Launched in September 2024, the CA Motorboat Section brings together motorboaters from all backgrounds, regardless of location or the type of motorboating. Whether members are cruising locally or exploring new waters, the Motorboat Section provides a platform to share information, updates and resources tailored specifically to motorboating.

While the CA has always supported both sail and motor cruisers, the creation of a dedicated Motorboat Section enables us to better serve our expanding community of motorboaters. We also recognise that some sailors transition to motorboating, and the CA is committed to supporting this shift with enhanced services and specialised resources.
