As colder weather sets in to the northern Hemisphere, we are steering south to the inviting warmth of Antigua, showcasing Deep Bay as December’s CAptain’s Mate of the Month.
A hugely popular destination, Antigua offers plenty of mooring options around the island. Deep Bay on the north-western side of the island is an inviting and stunning anchorage. An excellent bay for overnight stops, the sand offers good holding and the gently shelving beach is wonderful for swimming.
We head to Deep Bay with CA member Anne Varvill, who visited with husband Chris last year, and shares her firsthand insights:
"Quiet with a few anchored yachts but noisy with jet skis during the day, coming from the very exclusive hotel, that we didn't visit. The wreck in the middle of the entrance was marked with a white buoy and awash. Great snorkelling over it, tie your dinghy to the buoy. Great walk, some scrambling, up to the structure on top of the hill with great views across towards St Johns. The whole bay seems to be about 4m with no rocks or coral heads that we saw. Good holding in sand."
Information on the wreck is further detailed on the app. Members can discover more about Deep Bay and other locations in Antigua and across the Caribbean and beyond on CAptain’s Mate or via the web version of the app.
