Back in 2013 we bought a new to us Lagoon 380, which we named Matilda in Athens and spent two lovely summers cruising Greece, Italy and up to the Ballierics with a plan to slowly sail her back to Australia where we now live. Unfortunately life had other plans and we ended up back in the UK where Andy spent the next 15 months getting chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant for Multiple Myeloma. Luckily for us both, the treatment was successful and he is currently in remission. We have made it back to Australia slightly battered but unbeaten!
We thought our sailing days might be over. Myeloma is treatable but incurable so will return one day. But, as Andy's health improved, little ideas of what we could do started bubbling away. We couldn't do big ocean passages or obscure Pacific islands but surely we could get back to the glorious Mediterranean. Memories of that blue sea and sky, glistening lamb on spits, Italian markets full of dozens of different varieties of tomato, cold glasses of Mythos had kept us both going during our long, miserable winter in England. That idea has resulted in us now owning a lovely, little ex Sailing Holidays Dufour 32 called Banjo (after Banjo Paterson who wrote Waltzing Matilda) which is waiting for us in Corfu. We will be there in June and look forward to meeting anyone who is around the Ionian then. We'll be the ones smiling a lot and counting our blessings!
