For the first time in about 10 years, we are holding a Burns Night celebration at CA House this coming January, reviving a fine old tradition complete with recitations and song.
Our Master of Ceremonies is Alec McPherson. Alec was brought up on the shores of Loch Fyne, where he learned to sail the family sailing dinghy and motor boat. After reading mathematics at Edinburgh University he took a short service commission in the Royal Navy. During this time he was appointed Sailing Master of the Windfall yacht "Bee" and was selected to sail for the R N in the inter-services races. He then taught mathematics at the School of Navigation, Warsash, and in several other schools before becoming headmaster of the largest school for physically handicapped children, for which work he was awarded the O B E.
A Yachtmaster and Senior Instructor, Alec has sailed extensively in the Mediterranean and eastern seaboard of the USA as well as the West Coast of Scotland and the Brittany canals.
He’s very much in demand for Burns Night celebrations, and will be piping in the Haggis for us on 29 January. Tickets at £30 a head include a three course dinner and a wee dram for the toast.
Start time is 7 for 7.30.
