Biscay Cruise in Company

Port Louis June 7^th 8^th  9^th      Boats Assemble      

Arrive at your convenience at the marina at Port Louis in the shelter of the Citadel which houses two museums, a small maritime museum and a larger one showing the history of Lorient and its trade with the East.  Last year, we visited the Ste-Aimée restaurant for an excellent workers’ lunch. There are frequent ferries from here to Lorient itself.

We are hoping that the weather and swell will permit us to cross the bar into the river under the guidance of the ladies who pilot the boats from the semaphore ashore.                        

 Le Palais Belle Ile June 12^th 13^th  

The island is delightful and facilities in the basin now include water and power. Here is the only citadel in France in private ownership. Beyond Le Palais, there is excellent walking and cycling.

Port Haliguen June  14^th 15th  16th      

From here we should be able to sail to Houat and Hoëdic.  If the conditions are good, we could anchor overnight. The Quiberon Peninsula protects the bay from the swell, thus providing good sailing conditions for a good passage to

Le Crouesty June 17th  

This is an opportunity to refuel and replenish stores preparatory to spending a few days exploring the Morbihan and the Auray River.                    

June 18 ^th – 20^th The Morbihan and Auray   

It looks like there will be too many of us to sail together, so we will suggest some possible anchorages and you may find a quiet spot in the shelter of one of the islands. There are shops, restaurants and cafés on the Ile d’Arz and Ile aux Moines, a daily morning market at Auray. If you prefer paper charts, it would be a good idea to invest in a large scale one.

Vannes June 21^th 22^nd

Working ones way up to Vannes is almost a rite de passage, turn to port at the pink house. One of Brittany’s most attractive historic towns, the area around the marina was renovated a few years ago, so that the traffic is kept further away and there is a new capitainerie with excellent facilities. Our stay here should provide a fitting climax to the first Biscay Cruise in Company.                         

 This is very much a pottering cruise, there are no long passages between ports.  There are still a few places remaining.
