New Members Evening, 13th February, 18.30-21.30, CA House
Recently joined the CA? Join us for our bi-annual new members evening! If you haven’t yet been to CA House, this is your chance to come and enjoy an evening with us, get a real taste of what being part of the CA is all about, take a guided tour of CA House, see our library and information centre, cabin accommodation and where the Secretariat is based, plus meet lots of current CA members. There will also be a talk from Jim Bacon at 7pm on Cruising Weather for you to enjoy.
The evening is free for new and prospective members and includes a complimentary drink upon arrival. Please RSVP to office@cruising.org.uk to confirm your place. Cruising Weather by Jim Bacon
Jim has been a meteorologist since 1968 and is still thoroughly fascinated by all things weather. He has worked in and out of the Met Office over the years, and appeared on TV and radio for the BBC and Anglia Television before founding Weatherquest, a company based at the University of East Anglia.
His presentation on sailing weather has something for everyone. It is full of practical tips for experienced sailors. It demystifies some of the technical aspects of weather forecasting, such as the use of GRIB files. It never strays into the obscure or the technically boring. Jim’s dry sense of humour spices the subject matter throughout.
