David Keogh; HMS Edinburgh; Raising Stalins Gold. In 1942 HMS Edinburgh was Convoy Commander on the return passage from Murmansk to the UK and was carrying 5 Tons of Soviet Gold on route to America. Five days after leaving, she was sunk and lay for 40 years undisturbed, 800 feet under the Barents Sea. In 1981 and '86 two joint British-Soviet/Russian operations were mounted to recover the gold, David was in charge of both operations for both governments.
