CA Celebratory Lunch

Held at CA House on Saturday 23 October, the CA Celebratory Lunch was an occasion for members to meet up and celebrate the recipients of the 2020 CA Challenge Awards and winners of the 2020 Log Competitions.

Hosted by CA President Julian Dussek, the lunch welcomed around 50 CA members and staff, alongside special guest Mike Golding who presented the trophies and awards.

Challenge Awards

The Challenge Awards represent the highest honours presented by the association and shine a spotlight on the outstanding work and contributions made by individuals to the goals of the CA. The 2020 Awards were made in recognition of:

Knight Cup

Awarded for: most outstanding contribution by a CA member to the work of the CA.
Presented to: Ann Crome, for her work within the Finance Committee, relating particularly to The Galley and its Covid closure and reopening.

The Fid

Awarded for: best article on cruising matters to be published in Cruising.
Presented to: Liz Dodwell, for her article "Thinking small" describing a voyage on the Basingstoke Canal.

Brittain Cup

Awarded for: most valuable contribution to knowledge of a cruising area.
Presented to: Mike Henderson and Judith Grimwade for their work with the CA Almanac group.

President’s Plate

Awarded for: outstanding service to The Cruising Association.
Presented to: Robin Baron, for his work as Chair of the Regulations and Technical Services (RATS) group.

Laver Sextant

Awarded for: services to the Sections.
Presented to: Lucy Gray, General Manager, for her work assisting Sections with Zoom webinars.

Michael Manton Commemorative Plate

Awarded for: exceptional help to Section members.
Presented to: Jesse James, for the help he provided, as HLR for Trinidad, to cruisers stranded in the Caribbean during the Covid pandemic.

CA Log Winners

Dating back to the 1920s, the CA’s annual log competitions are one of the oldest traditions of the CA and encourage the sharing of cruising experiences across a variety of categories.

Trophies are awarded to members for the best log of a cruise carried out in the most recent season. Competition judge, Cathy Brown, a former editor of Cruising magazine, selected the winning logs from submissions received from around the world:

Awarded for: best log of a cruise of any duration.
Presented to: James Littlewood of Paddington V for Escape from Covid lock-down to the Netherlands.
