Updates to CAptain’s Mate now live

We are pleased to announce the release of the latest version of the CAptain’s Mate app is now becoming available for download on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store for Android. If your device hasn’t already updated automatically, make sure to download the new version.

This update brings a host of behind-the-scenes improvements to enhance the app’s performance, as well as one standout new feature: a membership directory. Now, finding details of fellow CA members is easier than ever. Simply select ‘Find a Member’ from the CAptain’s Mate menu and search by either member name or boat.

There is now no need to switch to the website to access the membership directory, as everything you need is on the app. Member and boat details are only shared with consent. If you’d like to appear in the membership directory but aren’t currently visible, please update your settings under the ‘My Account’ section on the CA website. While you can search for members offline, an internet connection is required to view their contact details.

Using the CAptain’s Mate Membership Directory

The new membership directory makes it easier than ever to connect with fellow members and explore boat details. With just a single tap, you can navigate between boats and their owners.

The membership directory also integrates with the 'Friends' feature for added convenience. If a member listed in the directory has an active 'Friends' entry, an icon will appear on their profile page, allowing you to quickly locate them on the map. Similarly, if a member in your Friends list is also visible in the directory, a 'View Profile' button will appear in their Friends popup, which will take you to their full details in the directory.

Depending on each member’s privacy settings, the app may also provide options to contact them directly.

Changes to offline maps

After updating the app for the latest release, we recommend checking your saved maps (Settings > Offline Storage > Saved Maps) if you’ve been using this feature. Due to changes in the third-party software that powers CAptain’s Mate’s offline maps, your saved maps may have been lost during the update and will need to be re-downloaded.

It will no longer possible to delete individual saved regions, offline maps can now only be removed all at once. We understand this is less convenient and regret the change, but it is unfortunately beyond our control. We’ve raised the issue with the software’s maintainer and hope to see the previous functionality restored in future updates.
