Cruising Association and Imray launch 2023 Cruising Almanac at Southampton International Boat Show

The Cruising Association (CA) and Imray are delighted to announce the launch of the fully revised and updated 2023 edition of the Cruising Almanac which is on sale at the Southampton International Boat Show, 16-25 September 2022.

Trusted as the go-to on board reference for sail and motor cruisers, the CA Cruising Almanac features the Shetlands in the north around the coasts and islands of Great Britain and Ireland, and spans the continent from Bergen into the approaches to the Baltic and down to Gibraltar.

"The comprehensive information published in the Cruising Almanac captures everything needed for planning safe passage in and out of harbours, rivers and anchorages, as well as discovering new waters," commented Lucy Hyslop, CA General Manager.

The 2023 CA Almanac

The renowned Cruising Almanac was first published in 1909 as ‘Sailing Directions’, becoming the Cruising Almanac almost one hundred years later in 2002. Authored by the first-hand knowledge of the CA’s experienced members, expert editorial team and the Regulations and Technical Services group (RATS), with Imray charts, the Cruising Almanac is stacked with essential information, checked and revised to reflect the changing cruising environment.

The 2023 edition includes a number of changes to make information more accessible, including renaming the opening chapter ‘Essential Cruising Information’, to incorporate information such as emergency rescue, first aid and entering/leaving the Schengen area. Coastguard information weather forecast broadcasts have been assigned to each cruising area, with arrival/departure reporting procedures detailed in the introduction for each country. Northwest Spain now has a dedicated chapter and there is improved detail in the information on Portugal, Southwest Spain and Gibraltar. The straightforward A4 format makes it easy to read at sea, with passage notes and full tidal details for secondary ports incorporated in the main text, with the tide tables for 47 standard ports published in an accompanying booklet.

Lucy Wilson, Imray Managing Director, said, "We’re proud of the long association between Imray and the Cruising Association. The partnership has resulted in years of dialogue between CA members, Almanac editors and Imray. The combination of carefully edited research and data with Imray’s cartography and publishing expertise make the Almanac a high quality, essential resource that no cruising sailor should be without."

Cruising Almanac Updates

Updates to the Cruising Almanac are published monthly throughout the year to take into account Notices to Mariners, changes to buoyage and lights and other new developments. Corrections are published on the CA website along with a free subscription service to receive monthly email updates.
