CA Land Rally - Athens - 2020 - Cancelled

Unfortunately, due to lack of interest/demand, this trip has been cancelled.

After many successful winter ‘land rallies’ we have decided to hold the 2020 event based in Athens. The five days/four nights event will take place between 1st-5th April staying in Athens at the President Hotel on a half board basis. The rally will include two days of extensive trips to sites in the Athens region with a third day a city tour of Athens

The itinerary is as follows:

April 1st - Arrival - President Hotel - www.president.gr

April 2nd - Corinth, Palivos, Nafplio

Starting from Athens we drive by bus westwards along the scenic coast, until we reach the Corinth Canal and make a quick stop to admire this engineering marvel that connects the Aegean and Ionian seas. Back in the ancient times, Corinth was amongst the richest cities and this is quite evident by its remains, including the huge Agora (market place). Here you can find the famous temple of Apollo and the steps of Apostle Paul. The tour continues towards Palivos Winery which is located at 800 meters from the imposing archaeological site of Ancient Nemea. The region of Nemea is also considered one of the largest vineyards in Greece and is famous for the Agiorgitiko grape and its wonderful wines. Palivos winery is a well-known family owned vineyard which offers a new experience to the visitors. In this one hour stop, you will learn about the vintage process and the wine-making stages, which will allow you to see the way that wine is produced. An onsite guide will happily share with you all the secrets of wine, as you taste some of the various local varieties.

Next stop is Nafplio which used to be the capital of Greece before Athens. Famous for its architecture that has Venetian, Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern Greek influences. Here the main attractions are the Castle of Bourtzi, the Acronauplia and the Castle of Palamidi built on the top of the hill as well as the various picturesque squares in the city center.

The drive will take you along 80 kilometers of coastline. Stop at Vouliagmeni Lake to enjoy the views. The healing properties of the lake water have been known since ancient times, and the lake is the only natural spa in Athens.
