The crew: John and Maggie. The boat: 1992 Moody 44. The plan: Leave Preston early June, destination Plymouth by summer's end. The cruise: Our maiden voyage, a slow exploration of unfamiliar Irish waters. The secret hope: visiting the Isles of Scilly, did we get there?
When John and Maggie bought their new boat, a Moody 44, it was located in Preston marina, 15 miles up the River Ribble. They intended to keep the boat near home in Plymouth but first they had to get the boat ready for a longish sea passage. Preston turned out to be a good place for preparation, a major city with all services and a mainline station to boot.
They planned to spend the summer meandering back home and Maggie had always had a hankering to explore the “West Coast of Ireland so why not take this in “on the way”.
Their talk will cover the experience of taking a new boat to waters not previously explored in the past. Find out how they went about planning it and how the trip went. Did they make it to Scilly?
