Globetrotting by charter, by David Mark

Chartering can open up amazing experiences in some of the world’s finest cruising destinations. It means you can go to far flung places even if your boat is in home waters and your time is limited. If you are thinking of buying a boat, you can try renting first. Whether you want family fun in good weather or to push your comfort zone, you can fulfil your wish, then hand the keys back and walk away. No maintenance hassle, operating costs or cost of capital.

David has taken some 50 yacht charters over 30 years in both monohulls and catamarans. His talk will look at the pros and cons of chartering; what to look out for when choosing location or vessel or operator; and tips on preparation and packing including "what if " kit. And he’ll show us some of the great places he has been. As it is the CA, he will try to include at least destinations that start with a C, such as Cape Town, Caribbean, Chesapeake, Cuba, Corsica, Croatia and others including the ancient port where "Jonah rose up to flee and found a boat that was going to Tarshish"  (Jonah 1.3)

When not chartering David sails his 36 ft yacht out of Portsmouth.
