All day Seminar at RHYC Woolverstone
Tom Cunliffe, the well known yachting journalist and author, renowned for his practical and down to earth approach, will chair this all day seminar. Throughout the day the emphasis will be on practical navigation for cruising.
PROGRAMME
Dr Andy Norris from the Royal Institute of Navigation will talk about the advantages and limitations of the most modern electronic navigation systems. As well as being an expert on his subject, Andy is a yacht owner, sailing from Maldon.
Jim Bacon, is Managing Director of Weatherquest, who supply forecasts to the BBC and The Times, and will be familiar to viewers of the BBC Look East programme, will make a welcome return to the Section to tell us about “Weather, and How it Can Affect our Plans”
Tom Cunliffe will lead a discussion on practical steps to take if (or when) the electronic chips go down.
Peter Chennell, who has written the RNLI’s very practical booklet on Passage Planning, will cover this topic.
Henry Stogden, of Fox’s Chandlery Electronics Section, is keen to take part and will bring a variety of demonstration equipment from different manufacturers. We hope to persuade other local suppliers to come along as well and to have representatives of Sailing Schools present to offer practical advice and talk about what they can offer.
The day will be planned to allow plenty of time for informal discussion with the speakers and suppliers and to try out the various items of equipment on display.
Book and pay before 30 June at the DISCOUNT PRICE of £50 per head. Bookings received after that date will be charged at £65 per head. The price includes teas, coffees and a finger buffet lunch.
