“Sorely Tried”. HMS Beagle’s Circumnavigation with Captain FitzRoy and Charles Darwin
HMS Beagle ended her days in the saltings at Pagglesham on the River Roach as a Coastguard Watch Ship. However, before that she had had a full and active life as a survey ship, carrying Charles Darwin around the world on his famous voyage. We will hear more about Beagle’s eventful life and learn if any remains of this remarkable vessel can still be found today. Sailing and the sea have been Graham Antony‟s life-long passion. He has owned a variety of boats and cruised extensively around Europe and beyond. He is now a Maritime Historian, has published a number of Maritime articles and books and lectures extensively. He is giving this talk without charge in return for a contribution to charity.
