With Cowes Week 2023 about to start, 29 July-4 August, the Cruising Association wishes teams competing in the Club Cruiser Class and Weekend Warrior Cup fair winds, fantastic racing and plenty of great memories.
The CA sponsored Club Cruiser Class and Weekend Warriors Cup provide a unique opportunity to race at Cowes Week, even if cruising is your more usual activity. You don’t need the latest in race kit or a spotlessly clean hull - it's all about having fun.
As ever, the Solent will throw up a mix of challenges, with a breezy forecast this weekend before the weather eases as the regatta progresses.
Club Cruiser Class
Launched in 2021 to expand accessibility to Cowes Week, the Club Cruiser Class has proven hugely popular. With entries up year on year, 2023 sees an impressive line-up of thirty teams, making the dedicated class for cruising boats one of the regatta’s most popular fleets. Reflecting the community of cruising, the entries represent a broad mix of boats.
'Panda of Hamble', a Westerly Fulmar 32, scored standout performances of 3rd overall last year and 2nd in 2021. Whilst they would love to capture the overall win, they say their main aim is to 'have fun on and off on the water'.
Representing very much what cruising is all about, their crew is made up of family and friends, ranging in experience from complete beginner to occasional racers and experienced sailors – with an average age of 63 years!
Weekend Warrior Cup
Recognising that a whole week's racing is too much for some and wanting to create an inclusive alternative, Cowes Week created the Weekend Warriors Cup. Making its debut this year, the Weekend Warrior Cup is a three-race mini-series from 29-31 July, with eight teams on the provisional entry list.
